Apparently Sadaam's capture has had a big impact on the resistance in Iraq. It would be nice for things to settle down over there.

Thu, January 22, 2004 - 8:21 PMYea, I hoped you planned your vacation, a few guys like you would be welcomed with open arms.
Now for some news that isn't issued by the same government that told us about the ready to deploy WMD. According to the real news and the bodies coming home daily things aren't going so good over there Jonny. There has been no reductions of violence and there won't be anytime soon.

Like you know what you're talking about? Don't you realize that the current situation exists and needs to be dealt with? Regardless of how it came about.
Yes it is a transparent power grab. But the reality is that politicians always lie. Its the nature and reality of politics. Get over it.
The reality also is that the violence has drastically subsided. Compared to what was happening before, much of which wasn't given extensive media coverage, there is much less now. Its part of my business to what the media so I do know what I'm talking about.

Re: Sadaam Capture
Fri, January 23, 2004 - 5:22 PMYes, I do realize that the current situation exists, duh.
The portrayal of the soldiers being safer is false, they have been dying at the same rate after the announcement of the end of major combat and the capture of Saddam. There was no drastic subsidence except in the attention span of the media and the public.
I have three relatives over there and no one is feeling any safer.
All I was pointing out was that your statement was false, but as you explained, everyone lies so why should you be any different. -

Re: Sadaam Capture
Fri, January 23, 2004 - 9:28 PMUh, why are you making this personal?
The fact is that the situation is improving, not worsening. If it was worsening, there would be no debate. It would be self-evident. Media doesn't report "good" news nearly as much.
If you have statistical proof that the "resistance" has weakened since Sadaam's capture, I'd like to know your sources. From what I see as a media observer, the situation is improving, as reported. -

Re: Sadaam Capture
Sat, January 24, 2004 - 4:25 PMIt is personal because people that I love are in danger due to this foolish ego trip.
I'm not sure what media you are observing but it isn't the one that is being reporting from around the world.
I am emotional about it because we have been and continued to be lied to, why do you say that things are getting better, time for a new assignment? Maybe we should start focusing on those same sex marriages, or maybe steroid use, yea that's the ticket. Hey, hey look over here, pay no attention to the human carnage behind the curtain.
In recent weeks, attacks on the American-led occupation forces have been running at about one and a half dozen a day, with others mounted daily against Iraqi security forces or against civilians, sometimes those working for the occupation army and sometimes bystanders.
The latest deaths brought to 512 the number of American service members who have died since the United States and its allies launched the Iraq war on March 20, according to a tabulation by The Associated Press. The American military and the Iraqi forces it is training have been mounting many raids themselves, including 52 simultaneously in Baghdad alone on Friday night that resulted in the arrest of about 25 people, the military said. Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, a military spokesman, said that in those raids bomb-making materials, documents that he said were "associated with" the intelligence services of the ousted government, and weapons and ammunition were seized.
American troops and local police officers also arrested a suspect in a previous attack on the Iskandariya police station, the American command said.
The continuing guerrilla war is complicating efforts to hand over sovereign power to the Iraqis by June 30, starting with caucuses to select a transitional national assembly that would then write a constitution calling for general elections in 2005. Many Iraqis would prefer quicker general elections instead, but the lack of security is one of the obstacles to that approach.

Re: Sadaam Capture
Sat, January 31, 2004 - 4:25 PMThis is a crazy link so it may not work, but the numbers in the story tell of increasing violence in Iraq, not the relief expected by the capture of Saddam.
Could it be that the intelligence was wrong again, the strongman was already a joke inside of Iraq and the insurgence used our shock and awe to accelerate the inevitable and now plan to send us home in boxes until we say uncle.

US combat deaths in Iraq have risen sharply during January despite a drop in the number of attacks and the capture of former dictator Saddam Hussein over a month ago.
As of Thursday, 33 American soldiers and one civilian had been killed by hostile fire during the month. That compares with 24 US combat deaths in December, and a total of 32 coalition combat deaths.
The figures appear to show that the security situation in Iraq is not improving, contrary to earlier claims from the US military and politicians.
